Troubleshooting Post Surgical Issues

  1. Redness or swelling: Make sure your pet is wearing his or her cone 24/7 during the duration of the healing process. Oftentimes animals will try to lick/groom their surgical incision because healing tissue can be a little itchy.
  2. Swollen scrotum or incision area: pets need to stay calm and be leash walked and/or crated only for 10-14 days post surgery. If you are having a difficult time keeping your animal calm please contact us for additional sedatives.
  3. Not eating: Anesthesia can make your pet nauseous and not want to eat. Not wanting to eat the night of surgery can be common. You can try bland not seasoned boiled chicken and rice to help entice your pet for the first few meals. If your pet continues not to eat please contact us for a follow up appointment. We have additional medication to help combat the nausea.

Common post surgery issues include mild bleeding, swelling, bruising, discharge, and occasionally open skin at the incision site. Oftentimes these are not life threatening issues but need to be addressed promptly. Please send us a picture via email/text.

We make every attempt to answer emails and texts promptly however to keep your cost low we have limited staffing hours. Please seek veterinary care at any of the places below if you cannot reach us.
